VISION STATEMENT
In support of the strategic plan adopted by California State University San Bernardino, the International Institute will lead the campus' globalization process by collaborating with university and community partners to develop, identify funding for, and promote activities and services that meet the international needs of our university and region and that make contributions to our global community.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
GOAL #1: Become an international leader that facilitates, strengthens, and promotes collaboration between campus units; community groups; regional, national, international organizations and consortia; and individuals engaged in global activities.
Objective 1.1: Facilitate communication among individuals, groups, and organizations with common international interests.
Strategies:
1.1.1 Hold regular meetings of the International Institute's advisory board, University/Community Partners.
1.1.2 Hold meetings with community, regional, national, and international partners as appropriate.
Objective 1.2: Facilitate projects for individuals, groups, and organizations with common international interests.
Strategies:
1.2.1 Develop mechanisms for designing and supporting international activities.
1.2.2 Promote collaborative and team-work processes.
Objective 1.3: Collaborate with consulates, embassies, and other institutions within the international arena.
Strategies:
1.3.1 Host representatives of consulates and embassies.
1.3.2 Maintain an ongoing dialog with consulates and embassies in relation to international interests, resources, and accomplishments.
1.3.3 Establish international activities and programs in collaboration with consulate and embassy personnel.
GOAL #2: Become an international learning community that excels in creating, applying, and exchanging knowledge.

Objective 2.1: In collaboration with faculty and appropriate colleges and departments, formulate curricular, programmatic, and resource initiatives that respond to the diverse and evolving needs of learners.
Strategies:
2.1.1 Develop and institute comprehensive strategies that address lifelong and career learning related to internationalism.
2.1.2 Facilitate and support the inclusion of continuously developing international perspectives in all courseworkin the major, in general studies, and in graduate programswhich provides knowledge skills, and interdisciplinary perspectives that will be required of a 21st century global citizen.
2.1.3 Facilitate the development and promotion of specialized courses and programs in area studies (Middle Eastern, African, Pacific Rim, European, Latin American, etc.) to provide students with an in-depth cultural, historical, and political understanding of specific countries and geographic regions.
2.1.4 Facilitate the development and promotion of language classes to support specific area studies (Arabic, African languages, Asian languages, etc.), as well as to support other international curriculum.
2.1.5 Establish a collaborative environment for learning by creating linkages between academic and non-academic learning related to multicultural and global issues.
2.1.6 In collaboration with library and media resources staff, identify and implement ways to expand university holdings related to area studies (Middle Eastern, African, Pacific Rim, European, Latin American, North American, etc.), as well as to other global and cultural issues.
Objective 2.2: In collaboration with faculty and university services, develop institutional linkages that support exchanges of students, faculty, staff, and resources in all areas of the world, including the Middle East, Africa, the Pacific Rim, Europe, Latin America, and North America.
Strategies:
2.2.1 Design and support collaborative academic programs with public and private universities and schools throughout the world.
2.2.2 Attract international students, faculty, and visitors to CSUSB and provide financial and personal support for their activities while on campus.
2.2.3 Identify and implement practices that enable CSUSB faculty and students to engage in international exchanges.
Objective 2.3: In collaboration with faculty and university services, acknowledge the important roles of international students and expand opportunities for them to use their expertise and to benefit from activities on campus and in the community, as well as regionally and nationally.
Strategies:
2.3.1 Design and facilitate personal and professional linkages between faculty, U.S. students, and international students.
2.3.2 Promote international students' roles as international "consultants" and "ambassadors."
2.3.3 Develop community, regional, and national linkages and opportunities for international students.
2.3.4 Assist student organizations that provide cultural and intercultural support for international students.
GOAL #3: Become an active and respected clearinghouse for information on international activities and services provided by and available to individuals, programs, and organizations on campus, as well as in the community, region, nation, and world.

Objective 3.1: Establish and maintain a database of CSUSB faculty members' international experiences, ongoing programs, interests, and needs.
Strategies:
3.1.1 Collect and analyze data from a faculty survey disseminated electronically and via hard copies.
3.1.2 Conduct regular meetings with deans, department chairs and faculty.
3.1.3 Maintain an ongoing dialog with CSUSB centers and institutes that have global involvements.
Objective 3.2: Establish and maintain a database of existing community, regional, national, and international partnerships that have global components and interests.
Strategies:
3.2.1 Maintain contacts with organizations that have established international interests such as the San Bernardino International Council, the Kiwanis Club, and area chambers of commerce.
3.2.2 Use the International Institute's database to build an expanding and synergistic global network.
Objective 3.3: Disseminate information to faculty about international teaching, consulting, and research opportunities.
3.3.1 Invite representatives of international teaching/research programs to make presentations to interested faculty.
3.3.2 Conduct faculty workshops on international opportunities.
3.3.3 Inform faculty of opportunities available through international consortia.
Objective 3.4: Disseminate information to international and U.S. students about global study and work options.
Strategies:
3.4.1 Invite representatives of international study and work programs to make presentations to interested students.
3.4.2 Conduct seminars on international opportunities for students.
3.4.3 Organize study/work abroad fairs.
3.4.4 Provide walk-in and scheduled counseling on international study and work opportunities.
Objective 3.5: Use technology to collect and disseminate international information electronically.
Strategies:
3.5.1 Set up and maintain an International Institute web site with international links.
3.5.2 Use videoconferencing and other technological resources to communicate with partners.
GOAL #4: Become a self-supporting unit whose interdisciplinary and international perspectives enable it to become fully integrated into the academic and social life of the university.

4.1.1 Utilize institutional funding, when available, to institutionalize the process of internationalizing the campus.
